Announcement: End-of-Life (EOL) Support for CentOS 7, CloudLinux 7, Ubuntu 18.04, and Debian 10

We have some important updates regarding the End-of-Life (EOL) support for several operating systems that may affect your current subscriptions. Please review the information below to understand the implications and the necessary actions you may need to take.

Who Should Be Aware

This announcement is relevant to you if you’re using:

  • cPanel (v110 or higher) on CentOS 7 or CloudLinux 7
  • Plesk Obsidian on CentOS 7, CloudLinux 7, Ubuntu 18.04, or Debian 10

What This Means

After the specified EOL dates, these operating systems will no longer receive security updates from their respective upstream vendors, leading to increased vulnerability to potential security threats. To address these concerns, cPanel and Plesk are offering an Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) program for subscribers. Please note that this initiative is managed directly by cPanel and Plesk, not by EuroVPS.

Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) Program Details

For Plesk Customers:

  • CentOS 7 & CloudLinux 7: July 1, 2024, to January 1, 2026
  • Ubuntu 18.04 & Debian 10: October 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025

For cPanel Customers:

  • CentOS 7 & CloudLinux 7: July 1, 2024, to January 1, 2026

Servers running any of these OS versions will automatically be enrolled in the ELS program when the OS reaches its EOL date. License costs will increase starting from:

  • August 1, 2024 for CentOS and CloudLinux
  • October 1, 2024 for Ubuntu 18.04 and Debian 10

Benefits of ELS

  • Ongoing Security Updates: cPanel and Plesk partnered with TuxCare to provide critical security updates for CentOS 7, CloudLinux 7, and Ubuntu 18.04. Plesk will continue full product updates, though Debian 10 will not receive TuxCare updates.
  • Continued Support Access: Both Plesk and cPanel will maintain support for users under the ELS program.
  • Extended Migration Timeline: The ELS program offers additional time for you to plan your migration to a fully supported operating system.

Important Fee Information

Beginning August 1, 2024, there will be an additional monthly fee for ELS Support for each qualifying license. This fee will be reflected in your renewal invoice and will continue until the OS is upgraded to a supported version. The first month—July 2024 for CentOS 7 and CloudLinux 7, and until September 30, 2024, for Ubuntu 18.04 and Debian 10—will be free of charge.

We want to be clear that we do not plan to cover the costs associated with outdated software support, and we also don’t want you to spend unnecessarily. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to consider upgrading to ensure the ongoing stability and security of your server environment.

We will issue an invoice covering the period from August for the use of the outdated OS. Unfortunately, there is no other options available to maintain your license.

Starting next January, there will be an increase in the ELS fee. Please note that cPanel and Plesk (WebPros) do not allow the continuation of licenses on outdated OS versions without participation in the ELS program.

What Are Your Options?

  1. Upgrade Your OS: We strongly recommend upgrading to the latest supported operating system version to ensure continuous security and stability. We are available to assist you with the migration process and can maintain the same hosting plan at no additional cost for the OS update.
  2. Pay the ELS Fee: If you decide to keep using an outdated OS, the ELS fee will apply according to cPanel’s / Plesk pricing. This fee will be directly transferred to you as it is required by cPanel/Plesk to support these older systems.

Next Steps

If you are currently using any of the EOL operating systems with Plesk or cPanel, we urge you to start planning your transition to a supported OS as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Should you have any questions or require assistance with the upgrade process, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
